Would Justin Trudeau be an MP today if his father had not been prime minister?

maybe..maybe not....if i recall he worked hard to win that riding....so for now he is the winner...and if the ppl of the riding of Papineau...don't like what he has done....the name Trudeau will not let him keep his job

I coudldn't disagree with you more Charlene. The name Trudeau in Quebec carries clout even today. Justin has accomplished nothing other than having the right last name. How did Belinda Stronach rise so rapidly in the Conservative ranks in the beginning of her political career. Was it because of her grand education, impeccible speaking skills, intellectual abilities or possibly because of papa Frank and his million dollar empire and strong connections? Can someone say George Bush Sr?

It is obvious to anyone with commonsense & knowledge of Canadian history that Pierre Elliot Trudeau has become an icon in Canada. The Trudeau family has acquired the status of semi-royalty in our beloved country. In fact, many informed people label post-Trudeau Canada, TRUDEAUPIA. The influence of His Highness on Canada has been gigantic. I remember vividly when I got my M.A degree in history how many of us university grads & Canadians enmasse got caught up in Trudeaumania. Thus, it makes sense to the majority of Canadians that Justin Trudeau would find it a cinch to be crowned a virtual Prince of Wales as M.P.
By the way, after I got carried away by Trudeaumania in my Ivory Tower days, I got taste of the real world working at a real job, my eyes were opened & I repented of my naive university views & turned away from the out-of-touch with reality, ultra-liberal worldview of Trudeaupia and became more tuned to the real world & commonsense & truth.

Seekthetruth...I can relate. As a teenager back in the 70's I was actually a strong cheerleader for the the NDP. What the hell was I thinking?..(bash the Americans, no need for military or defense spending, disarm the citizens, criminals are victims too, and we need more nanny state intervention in our lives). Life was so simple living in my mommys basement and sleeping in until noon. Thank God I quickly discovered the real world. And today I see that world slightly different then I did back then. Bernard...Very few people are NDP at 60 or any age. I find the NDP attract more of a younger demograph of 30 and under. If you're a liberal at 60 then that probably means you are a 60 year old liberal. Heritageradiaclactivist...I assume your hero Trudeau loved parading around Quebec wearing his Prussian military uniform and Nazi helmet in the 40's decrying the colonial imperialist war in Europe. I wonder if a Conservative wore a Nazi uniform what the liberal media would make of that? Thank God for Churchill.

Liberals & leftwingers of all stripes, such as the pathetic NDP, are cousins who believe in the same destructive ideology of the Nanny State. They believe the Nanny State replaces God. The Nanny State can do no wrong. Like God, it is perfect. It can solve all problems for us, so we don't have to do any thinking on our own or do anything independently on our own. Just keep thinking like a child & count on the Nanny State to do everything for you.
In a nut shell, Liberals/leftwingers are like little children who have never grown up. They are dreamers who dream their life away. They don't have the guts to tackle real life problems by themselves - just rely on the Nanny State to do it for you. Thus, it is obvious to us grownups that the liberal/NDP ideology is destructive to one's character development, self-reliance, maturity, strength. The Trudeupian/NDP mindset breeds an infantile regression. It is not healthy for a whole nation like ours to have such an infantile mindset. Before Trudeau, we were a proud, brave nation whose brave soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice in the two world wars. And what did the spoiled brat elitist Trudeau do in WWII? - he rode around Montreal with a Nazi helmet, thumbing his nose at our brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives!

I immigrated from France in 71 and am still working on mastering the nuances of the english language. Be patient with me.
I remember being puzzled by the "Trudeaumania" pandemic what was engulfing the nation at that time. I couldn't figure out how a guy could reconcile his admiration for Castro, Mao and Communism with his privileged lifestyle in Canada. He was the first to show the nation how to plant the seeds of future government deficits.

It's so refreshing & heart-warming, Bernard, to have someone agree with our views because Trudeau is an icon in our country & virtually untouchable. It is a brave soul indeed who dares to oppose this demi-god in Trudeaupia.

To win converts remain civil, don't attack the "messenger". Just convince them that their message is wrong, you will be more credible.
